The future of Business Communications ? Votacall Blog

This is an interesting article detailing Broadsoft?s research into the mobile workforce?regarding the direction of business communications.? Votacall believes that the below?will eventully become mainstream due to?the on-demand and mobile desires of the workforce.? The average individual is?used to gaining access to information, entertainment etc?from anywhere and at anytime.? They will certainly expect the same functionality at work.

Global enterprises are shifting to mobile-only communications more rapidly than expected?as well as adopting
unified communications services more broadly, according to the results from the
BroadSoft (NASDAQ: BSFT) 2011 Mobile Enterprise of the Future Survey. Notably,
25 percent of enterprise IT decision-makers believe desk phones will be replaced
by mobile phones within two years, and 82 percent of enterprises have employees
currently using mobile applications for communications and collaboration.

The 2011 BroadSoft survey, conducted by
Cohen Research Group, gathered insight from 200 U.S. and 200 U.K. IT
decision-makers (CXOs, vice presidents and directors) at enterprises of all
sizes. The results indicate enterprises are increasingly supporting a diverse
mobile workforce and a challenging range of mobile platforms and are rapidly
prioritizing the expansion of their unified communications capabilities.

Survey results were drawn from respondents
with significant input in IT purchasing decisions. More than three-quarters (76
percent) said they were the sole decision-makers on mobile and unified
communications IT purchases, while the remaining 24 percent shared that
responsibility. The survey found 44 percent of enterprises surveyed have at
least one-quarter of their workforce operating solely using a mobile phone, and
82 percent of enterprises have employees using mobile apps for communications
and collaboration. Already, 30 percent of enterprises support tablets, while 51
percent support BlackBerry devices; 40 percent, iPhones; and 31 percent, Android
phones.

Sixty-two percent of IT leaders are
expanding their enterprise?s unified communications capabilities, with instant
messaging, Web collaboration and video conferencing identified as the top UC
services they are looking to support on mobile devices over the next three
years. Seventy-two percent of IT decision-makers in the United States are
looking to deploy video conferencing across their organization in the next year,
compared with 56 percent in the United Kingdom.

Enterprises believe their mobile network
operator (MNO) is better positioned to deliver many UC services (including video
calling and conferencing, Web conferencing, voicemail, presence management and
instant messaging) than fixed line providers, Microsoft, Google or IBM. When
asked who could best deliver a complete, integrated set of unified
communications services, ?my mobile service provider,? Microsoft and Google were
the top choices among respondents.

?Enterprise end users are demanding their
IT department
support a consumer-grade communications experience that includes access to
advanced communications services and applications across their preferred mobile
communication device,? said Leslie Ferry, vice president of marketing for
BroadSoft. ?More telling is the fact the survey revealed that mobile network
operators have a compelling but closing window of opportunity to be the
preferred provider of choice when it comes to delivering unified communications
services that keep mobile employees connected via video, instant messaging, Web
conferencing and presence management, indicating MNOs need to act now, before
competitors erode their customer base.?

Making the Right Choice With DIY Home Improvement Vital ...

No kidding at all ? no credit check payday loan is something that you perhaps never thought you would be actively looking for more information on.

If you are comfortable with only knowing just a little bit about this, then that is fine but you can discover a lot, actually, which will be to your advantage. We have our intuitive aspects and qualities that are a natural part of our thinking and feeling, and many people throughout the ages have encouraged us to just go with it. We are here to serve your thirst to have more knowledge, and by so doing we also serve the same purpose in ourselves.

Bear in mind when you are reading about this that there is also important related information as we mentioned, above.

If you want to change the look of your home, or make some essential repairs, DIY home improvement is one of your options. You need to be honest with yourself in your ability to do the job, along with having enough time to get the job done, and make sure your budget is high enough to do all that you want to do. If you are not totally committed to your projects for making the needed changes to your house, the amount of money you save will not be much. The suggestions that are following can be helpful for anyone who wants to improve their home by themselves.

You want to know more about no credit check loan, but the other important side of the coin is that you have to get up and move on it. Most people, the majority of them, do nothing all throughout their lives and nothing good happens from that.

Of course people are aware of their conditions, which most do not like, but there is some kind of habit of never doing anything about it. As you well know, even though overcoming inaction can be tough at first, once you just get started will make all the difference.

A lot of folks, both women and men, will be able to take these few techniques and really put them to excellent use. As you can see, we are not done yet ? please keep reading to learn more. Before you get started on any kind of DIY home improvement undertaking, be certain that it is practicable and that you have enough know-how and amount of time to complete it. Many homeowners like the idea of undertaking a big project, and then either lose motivation in the middle of it or find that it was more difficult than they thought. Some projects are more time consuming and require more skills than others and you should really think this through prior to starting the work. If needed, ask for some counsel from someone who is knowledgeable about this kind of work. It is better to not start a new task or hire someone else than to start it and not finish it.

If you want to change the look of your home, and can afford it, then remodel your kitchen. If money is an issue, there are some smaller improvements that can be made to your kitchen which are lower cost. You may not be able to buy all new cabinets, but that doesn?t mean you can?t at least replace the doors, hardware and knobs. You can find attractive laminate that is fairly inexpensive, to replace faded countertops, which can change your kitchen?s looks. Your kitchen will look better with new energy-efficient appliances, instead of the old ones. Your cabinets will have a completely new look, when you repaint your kitchen with a new color, and the effect can be dramatic.

In terms of DIY projects, flooring offers you more options than any other. There are so many options when you want to put in new floors that don?t cost lots of money and that anybody is capable of performing. For example, laminate wood flooring is easy to install even when you?ve never taken on a DIY project before. The pieces are already finished and simply snap together. While it isn?t as sturdy as floors made from more expensive materials, this will offer your home a much better look, particularly where the floors are concerned. Vinyl is another fantastic flooring option and comes in all sorts of different colors and styles. Installing vinyl is quite simple, as you can get tiles with self-adhesive backing.

A reasonably priced and satisfying way to improve your home is to do the work yourself. Many home improvements will make your home more appealing and comfortable and will also add to its value. The tips we?ve explored in this article are just a few that you should keep in mind when planning any home improvement projects. It is more likely that your DIY home improvement task to turn out the way you would like it to, if you are systematic in your planning.

Of course small loans for bad credit is important to you otherwise you would not have been searching for it. That is why you just never know where things will end up depending on the peculiarities. Once that occurs, of course there will be issues that appear that you were not expecting. Perhaps upon further reflection you will begin to visualize what needs to be done in terms of further reading. But as you well know, the internet is so huge that you can do that with no problems. However, you need to do responsible research on anything. There is too much unreliable information floating around; so keep your wits about you and stay alert.

(AP) ? A car bomb outside the gate of a presidential compound in southern Yemen killed at least 25 people hours after the country's new president was formally inaugurated and vowed to fight al-Qaida.

A security official said the attack in the city of Mukalla in Hadramout province was carried out by a suicide bomber, and that it bore the hallmarks of an al-Qaida operation. Both al-Qaida and southern separatists are active in the region.

A health official confirmed the death toll. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not allowed to speak to the press.

The blast came hours after Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi was sworn in as president to replace longtime leader Ali Abdullah Saleh, following an election aimed at ending more than a year of political turmoil in Yemen. Hadi was the only candidate in the election.

In his televised speech before parliament, Hadi vowed to keep up Yemen's fight against al-Qaida-linked militants, who have taken advantage of the country's political turmoil to seize control of towns and swaths of territory in the restive south.

Hadi also pledged that thousands of Yemenis who have been forced from their homes because of the fighting among government troops, southern separatists, mutinous military units, tribal fighters, and numerous other factions would be able to return home.

"One of the most prominent tasks is the continuation of war against al-Qaida as a religious and national duty, and to bring back displaced people to their villages and towns," Hadi said.

Hours after Hadi spoke, the car bomb rocked Mukalla in the province of Hadramout, part of formerly independent south Yemen, which united with the north in 1990.

Ahmed al-Rammah, who witnessed the blast, said by phone from Mukalla that he saw a pickup moving slowly to the gate as soldiers were coming out. Then it exploded, he said. The explosion was followed by heavy gunfire from the surviving guards.

Hadramout's governor, Khaled Said el-Deeny, told The Associated Press that police have launched an investigation.

Hadramout and other provinces in southern Yemen have been wracked by violence in the wake of anti-Saleh protests over the past year. Many accuse the longtime ruler of allowing security to collapse as a way of pressuring Western governments and neighboring Gulf countries into keeping him in power.

Under international pressure late last year, Saleh signed a Gulf-brokered and U.S. backed agreement that gave him immunity from prosecution for the deaths of hundreds of people in last year's turmoil in exchange for handing over powers to Hadi, his deputy at the time.

President Barack Obama said in a statement that he congratulated Hadi in a telephone call Saturday, and told him the U.S. "will stand with the people of Yemen as they continue their efforts to forge a brighter future."

He added that under Hadi, "Yemen has the potential to serve as a model for how peaceful transitions can occur when people resist violence and unite under a common cause."

Yemen's new president takes power with a popular mandate bolstered by the unexpectedly large turnout ? 65 percent ? for the Tuesday vote.

But Hadi faces a slew of challenges as he tries to bring stability to the country. He must restructure powerful security forces packed with Saleh loyalists, launch a national dialogue that would include southern secessionists, and appease a restless religious minority in the north as well as disparate opposition groups in the heartland.

Washington has played an active role in the transition, in hopes that Hadi can head off chaos and ensure cooperation against the country's active al-Qaida branch.

Government operations have failed to oust the group, which is blamed for trying to blow up a U.S.-bound airliner in 2009 and cargo planes bound for the U.S. a year later.

Saleh meanwhile returned to Yemen early Saturday after spending about three weeks in the U.S. receiving treatment for injuries he suffered during a June explosion at his compound that helped hasten his departure. Upon his arrival, Saleh told a local television stationed owned by one of his sons that the election was "part of a peaceful exchange of power", and that it marked the start of "a new page" in Yemen.

Saleh is the fourth Arab leader swept from power by the Arab Spring. But thanks to his continued presence in the country and his negotiated exit, the political changes brought by his ouster may be much less dramatic than the results of uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya.

Many fear that the ex-president, who has cast a large web of tribal and family relations during his more than three decades of rule, may still try to pull the strings during the transitional period until a new constitution is written.

Hadi called on all political parties to abide by democracy as a means to move Yemen out of its crisis.

"Expected changes don't come by mere wishes and hopes but through democratic dialogue, and through a serious and correct approach to the key issues that racked the country," he said.

The ceremony was attended by the U.S., and EU ambassadors, and several Arab envoys.

Meanwhile, senior officials close to Saleh said the former president was waiting for an answer from the Gulf sultanate of Oman on whether he can live there. Saleh stayed in Muscat in January for some days before he left to the U.S. for treatment, and Yemeni officials raised the possibility at the time that he would eventually seek exile in Oman, which borders Yemen to the east.

The officials said Saturday that Sultan Qaboos bin Said received Saleh's request but did not meet him. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue,

Saleh's son, Ahmed, also traveled to Oman on Jan. 21 to arrange a residence for his father but did not meet with the sultan at the time either.

The officials said Oman was negotiating the issue with its Gulf Arab neighbors and the United States.

Ford?s 2013 Mustang gets wickedly customized in new ad [Video]

It?s Friday afternoon and we know that there is a pretty good chance the reason you are reading this right now is because you need a few more distractions to get you through your work day before you can head home for the weekend.

What better way to pass some time than enjoying a fairly creative commercial that shows off just a handful of the custom possibilities for Ford?s new 2013 Mustang, including a clever twist towards the end that took the ad from borderline predictable to positively prodigious. Ok, prodigious might be a bit (a lot?) much, but it was still a smile-inducing break from the mundane of auto advertisements.

(More after video)

So if you had your way with customizing a new 2013 Mustang, what would be on your list of mods or changes?

In my campaign to exceed my shopper?s expectations, I am continually looking for methods to enhance myself and my business. While, just lately listening to some Brian Tracy CD?s about productiveness success secrets, I acknowledged my software of many of those similar principles in my own business. I was curious if my business friends additionally applied these methods to extend enterprise cash flow and business productivity. I surveyed various business professionals - actual people making use of productiveness expertise of their each day enterprise lives - to ask them about their private methods for increasing enterprise money stream and enterprise productivity.

Without me even mentioning the Brian Tracy CD?s, the survey takers unknowingly revealed each one of many Brian Tracy CD?s secrets all through their answers. Though this in itself was intriguing, what I found notably fascinating was that every one of many businessmen and women surveyed expressed the significance of four specific ways to extend business money circulation using enterprise productiveness techniques.

1. Make A Resolution! We tend to over evaluate what is really on the table. Many entrepreneurs will get stuck and not be capable of get wherever as a result of they get caught in analysis paralysis. So, the underside line is to quickly but skillfully current, evaluate and decide. Apply the KISS method (Hold It Super Easy).

2. Plan Each Day. Some will take this a step farther and suggest planning every single day in advance. The 6pm.com coupon codes common thread with all the businessmen and ladies concerning this tip was that they applied a system to their ?to do? list. There is a distinction between ?urgent? and ?important? and inside every are varying ranges of priority.

3. Eat That Frog. In different phrases, don?t delay the task that is the most difficult or essentially the most dreaded. As a substitute, begin with that event and get it over with. Once it?s out of the way, the rest will seem simple leading to you getting more executed in a shorter amount of time.

4. Be Intensely Motion-Oriented. This one goes somewhat hand in hand with quantity 1. But what is most vital right here is to take motion, any action. As Nike says, ?Simply Do It.? It?s higher to make a mistake and study from it then to never have tried. Wayne Gretzky (the well-known high scoring ice hockey player) was quoted, ?you?ll miss 100% of the pictures you by no means take.? Similarly, Thomas Edison claims to have discovered over 2000 ways that did not produce electrical energy before discovering simply the fitting combination which resulted in efficiently creating electricity.

Only you may be accountable on your choices so you?ll want to educate your self and be taught all the things you can to increase the percentages of the success of your individual business - including how to ensure that you stay proactive to extend business money movement and business productivity.

Evaluate and develop tips on how to enhance enterprise cash move and apply business productiveness techniques based on your own circumstances.

Tattoo festival makes stop in Waco | The Baylor Lariat

Waco is the next stop for a festival that both hardcore and casual fans of skin art can enjoy.

The Immersed in Ink Tattoo and Arts Festival is making a stop at the Waco Convention Center February 24-25.

Tickets are $20 per day and $35 for the weekend.

Among the tattoo-related attractions will be artists? exhibitions, tattoo clinics, live tattooing and skin art contests.

The festival has attracted some of the best tattoo artists from Texas and across the nation, such as Vinnie ?Hottdogg? Romero from Nebraska?s Authentic Ink, and a host of Austin-based artists.

?You can get tattooed on the spot from one of the hundreds of different artists from across the country, without having to waste your time driving around,? Amy Garfield, owner G-Force Productions, said.

G-Force Productions is the company that organizes the festivals.

The festival has been traveling across the country for seven years, but this is its first stop in Waco.

Garfield said the goal of the festival is to expose as many people as possible to quality tattoo art.

In addition to the tattoo exhibitions, the festival will feature a variety of countercultural acts and other entertainment.

This weekend?s entertainment includes live music, roller derby shows and human suspension exhibitions where participants are suspended midair by hooks under their skin.

Garfield said the event is meant to have more of a family atmosphere than other similar festivals, but the entertainment schedule will still be packed.

?There?s pretty much something going on on the stage at all times,? Garfield said.

The Immersed in Ink festival might be coming just in time for local tattoo artists.

Kegan Eastham, an apprentice at the local tattoo parlor Art Ambush, said tattooing in Waco has been struggling with legitimacy, and a bad reputation, for a long time.

?When I first came here, it wasn?t the good side of tattooing that was famous in Waco,? Eastham said.

Eastham, originally from Fort Worth, has been tattooing for close to two years and considers it another form of art.

Eastham said legitimate shops in Waco have to compete with amateur artists operating out of their houses.

Legitimate shops like Art Ambush are required by the Texas Department of State Health Services to follow strict guidelines for cleanliness, protective gear and equipment sterility. Eastham said an ideal tattoo parlor should be part art gallery and part hospital, but it?s the dedication to the artistic side that brings tattoo aficionados together for festivals like Immersed in Ink. ?It?s like an art show on people,? Eastham said.

picking up breadcrumbs

Picking Up Breadcrumbs
http://pickingupbreadcrumbs.blogspot.com
Blog type: Individual family history

A few years ago, my father handed me a flash drive with a copy of our family tree on it. I?ve dabbled in working on it, but there is already so much done. I never thought I?d be able to pick up on dead ends that my family was having. I set it aside.

Recently, we moved to Oklahoma so that I could be a stay at home mom. This gave me time to pursue my interests. One of them was that flash drive. In January, Dad was out for a visit and we went to the local family history library to get some information. I saw a sign asking for volunteers. I signed up. Since that time, I?ve managed to not only make huge strides in working on my step-mothers family tree, but make huge breakthroughs in my own family history. Some of the breakthroughs were things that I never thought I would have. Ever.

I decided to start a blog after listening to Lisa Louise Cooke?s seminar on blog and podcasts at Rootstech 2012. Lisa runs the Genealogy Gems podcast, and she mentioned how much could be done, just by posting a blog and discussing my progress. So? here we are.

Since my parents worked so hard on our family history, I can?t really say that I?m working on my family tree, since all of the obvious work has already been done. Right now, I feel like Hansel and Gretel wandering through the woods following a breadcrumb trail. I?m looking for the bits, pieces, hints and clues that will lead me to places that my parents never managed to reach. I?m gathering breadcrumbs by locating the documents to support the work that is already complete, and making sure that the work that has been done is accurate. Unfortunately this also means that a beginner at genealogy is working on projects at a much higher skill level than I now possess. I?m hoping that by logging my progress and trials, I can reach out to the genealogy community for help and guidance, but maybe some other poor sap in my situation will be able to learn from my dumb mistakes.

I?m sure there will be plenty to learn from.

The Genealogy Workshop

Blog type: UK genealogy

Welcome to my blog.? My name is Nicola Elsom,? I grew up in north Essex and my personal family history research has centered on Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and London.

Upon leaving school, I also left Essex to study Biology at Oxford University, after which I trained and worked as a Chartered Accountant in London. In recent years I have continued to live in London and have been a? full time mum to my two children.

I began researching my family history in 1997, and I find myself, in 2012, absolutely amazed at the changes that have taken place in the world of Genealogy in 15 years.? Every time I return to my research there is a new website, a new index, a new catalogue at an archive, and countless other new means to push forward my research.

There have been times when I have felt I could barely keep up with the changes, and I have resolved that in 2012 I will not only explore the many new resources? at the disposal of family historians, but I will share some of my work via this blog with the hope of informing and inspiring others.? I aim to make this blog a source of information on the developments in English family history research.?? I also plan to widen my research to take in other sources that I have not previously explored.

I have always been as interested in learning about the lives of my ancestors, as I have in searching for names from ever earlier dates, and I hope to uncover more stories of their lives.

And finally, no, that?s not me in the photo, although I am thinking of starting a collection of vintage hats.? Her name is Isobel Elsom and she was a film star.? I?ll blog about her one day.

Greetings! The Massachusetts Genealogical Council (MGC) is very excited to introduce our new blog, The MGC Sentinel. With this new vehicle of communication we hope to provide another source of information on issues concerning legislation that threatens access to public records.

The MGC Sentinel will not be restricted to legislative issues ?? we will also provide updates about our annual seminar and anything else we think might interest members of the genealogical community. It will be free and open to the public. We are in the planning stages for our July 21st seminar, ?Ethnicity and Genealogy,? so stay tuned for some exciting news! We?re aiming to present the best MGC seminar ever. Big shoes to fill, but we can try!

You will note that our new blog?s logo has repetitions of the Boston State House in different colors and intensities. This is meant to reflect the different reactions that we all have as individuals to one fact. We all see things differently. We will showcase a variety of authors, each writing in his or her individual voice, mostly MGC Executive Board members, but occasionally we would like to host guest bloggers as well. It is my fervent wish that readers will leave comments telling us their own experiences in making their voices heard on Capitol Hill and in their local state governments. It is our aim to make sure that by displaying all of the colors and letting all voices be heard we will come out with a true representation of the facts.

Discovery may someday lead to prevention and treatment of sudden infant death syndrome

Discovery may someday lead to prevention and treatment of sudden infant death syndrome

Friday, February 17, 2012

Researchers at Oregon Health & Science University have discovered that brain cells commonly thought to play a supporting role actually are critically important for the growth of brainstem neurons responsible for cardiorespiratory control. The discovery has profound implications for the prevention and treatment of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), the leading cause of death in children aged one month to one year.

The new discovery is published online in Neuroscience.

In their study, the OHSU team looked at glial cells, non-neuronal cells of the brain, and found that they very potently regulate growth of nerve cells in the brainstem. In fact, the glial cells actually inhibit the growth of brainstem neurons and may be as important for establishing neuronal networks as neurotrophic factors, a family of proteins essential for brain growth and survival. The OHSU study is the first to find that glial cells inhibit nerve cell growth.

"Previous research has shown that a common feature of the brains of SIDS babies is a dramatically increased number of glial cells," said Agnieszka Balkowiec, M.D., Ph.D., principal investigator and associate professor of integrative biosciences in the OHSU School of Dentistry. "Based on the results of our new study, the increase in glial cells in SIDS babies could be the cause of a compromised growth of brainstem neurons that control the cardiorespiratory function and, ultimately, cause death."

The new study also shows that glial cells direct the growth of brainstem neurons caused by BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor), another molecule found by the Balkowiec lab to play an important role in cardiorespiratory control.

"Our study shows that the picture is more complex than we had previously thought," said Balkowiec. "A better understanding of interactions between BDNF and glial cells could play a significant role in the development of treatment for SIDS, high blood pressure, and other disorders with a deficient cardiorespiratory control."

(AP) ? Morocco's pro-democracy February 20 movement spearheaded the country's version of the Arab Spring and sent the centuries-old monarchy scrambling to reform. Now, a year after its birth, the youth-led group appears to have lost its way.

And while the movement struggles for relevance, Morocco's problems are far from solved: Social discontent and clashes between police and unemployed graduates are on the rise as the economy suffers from the effects of Europe's financial crisis.

Like the Occupy movements in the United States, Morocco's pro-democracy groups now need to find out if they can keep the fight going.

On Sunday, the movement will try with countrywide anniversary demonstrations to rekindle some of the fire that at its peak in March put 800,000 people from all walks of life on the streets calling for an end to corruption, greater democracy and social justice.

The protesters shook the cities of Morocco and achieved some of the things they wanted, bringing their country a new constitution and free elections.

Since that time, however, the numbers at the weekly demonstrations have plummeted to a few thousand in the larger cities as ordinary people abandoned the movement, apparently satisfied with King Mohammed VI's reforms, including granting more powers to elected officials ? or scared away by a tougher response to the protests.

Elections on Nov. 25 were won by a moderate Islamist opposition party promising many of the things once shouted at demonstrations.

Moroccan authorities have trumpeted their "third way" of dealing with the Arab Spring, steering between revolution and repression in favor of reforms with stability. Social unrest has continued though, including violent clashes between police and unemployed graduates calling for government sector jobs.

The youth-led movement has had a hard time harnessing that simmering anger.

"The problem with February 20 is that it is elitist and doesn't have a rapport with the people," said Mouad Belghouat, a 25-year-old rapper with February 20 whose songs excoriating the palace and social inequalities in the country became the soundtrack for the movement. The movement's demands weren't all realized, he said, "so we continue to go into the streets."

Belghouat, who goes by the named El-Haqed, or the Enraged, was jailed for four months for getting into a fight with a regime supporter in the gritty, low income suburb of Casablanca where he lives. His supporters say the charges were trumped up.

"You can't talk to people about parliamentary monarchy, they think the king is sacred, so you have to talk to them about unemployment and those stealing the wealth of the country," he said, explaining that he and his friends in the movement now go to neighborhoods and have discussions to raise people's consciousness.

It also helps that his rap songs appeal to the young, unemployed and disenfranchised youth that swell the crumbling slums surrounding Casablanca, Tangiers and other large cities.

The movement's protests always had an artistic side to them, with street theater often accompanying the colorful marches through the streets.

In one Casablanca protest, a man with the mask of a hated adviser of the king dangled a baguette on a fishing rod above the grasping hands of three ragged figures representing the people.

There is no denying that in the initial months of the protests, February 20 achieved more than generations of party politics had accomplished in opening up Morocco.

"It succeeded in breaking a taboo, it brought out into the open calls against corruption and the domination of certain figures on the economy," said Omar Bendoro, a political analyst at Rabat University. Close associates of the king from wealthy families are perceived to dominate the economy.

After years of repression, people are no longer afraid to make their discontent known, whether about lack of water, electricity or civil rights, he added.

"Social problems have always existed, but now the people explode because there is a chance that the powers-that-be will take them seriously," Bendoro said.

The king, due either to the street rallies or fears of Egyptian- or Tunisian-style revolutions, agreed in March to amend the constitution, bowing to longtime demands from political parties.

Under the new constitution the prime minister has more powers and comes from the party that won the most votes, rather than whomever the king felt like choosing under the old system. Ultimate power, however, still rests with the monarch and his court of close advisers.

Even as the concessions, including raising public sector wages, blunted popular anger, activists say there was a second, darker, prong to the official response ? one that targeted the movement itself.

Starting in May, demonstrations began to be attacked by riot police and hired thugs, and some activists started receiving late night visits from security officers.

"There were two levels at work, the institutional and the non-institutional, which was the intimidation, beatings and propaganda ? particularly propaganda about the Islamists," said activist Abadila Maaelaynine.

State media said the demonstrators were being infiltrated by radical communists and hardline Islamists from the banned Adl wal Ihsane (Justice and Charity) movement, which did have a big presence in the demonstrations.

The accusations stuck, further cooling public ardor for the movement, and soon the demonstrations became more of a weekly ? later monthly ? traffic nuisance than a real vehicle of political change.

"We failed to become more innovative in what we were doing and it's time to admit that," said Zeinab Belmkaddem, a young activist with the movement, which is now looking to start a political party and build up a lasting network tied to the people.

"We don't want to just stay in the streets, we tried that for a year ? been there done that ? that's it, but at the end of the day what happened is that others took advantage and that's what happened with the PJD," she said bitterly, referring to the Islamist party that won elections.

The party has been a clear beneficiary of the movement.

"The process of democratization in the country is moving in a good direction," said Mustapha Khalfi, once the editor of the PJD's newspaper and now the minister of communication and government spokesman. "Moroccan society has the feeling that what is happening in politics has an impact on daily life and most importantly when they participate it can make a difference."

Khalfi is quick to praise the February 20 movement for its early efforts, but noted that it has since lost momentum and popularity and it is the new government that is now looking to satisfy people's demands for jobs.

Activists, however, question whether the limited powers given to the new government will be enough to enact the deep reforms that the people crave ? especially as daily frustrations mount.

"Now the people are waiting to see what they can do," said the rapper Belghouat. "They will be disappointed."
