My favorite way to travel is to home swap and after 8 home exchanges in 8 years (4 in the U.S. and 4 in Europe), I?m ready to go again! When you home exchange, you get to stay in a home with a kitchen, live like a local in a non-tourist area, and skip having a bill handed to you upon checkout. Free at checkout? I also love that while you?re traveling, your home is occupied and being cared for during your vacation and you didn?t have to pay for those services either. Yes ? free again! Home swapping is very frugal, fancy, and fun but for most people, it comes with concerns.

Here are the home exchange concerns I hear most often:

When I first brought up the idea of home swapping to my husband, prior to our first home exchange to Paris, he was pretty much against it. He had concerns about the treasured items in our home (luckily, we don?t have any) and I had to do some research to convince him that inviting strangers into our home was a good idea. This is what we?ve found with home swapping:? once you communicate by email and perhaps talk on Skype or the telephone with your home exchange partner, they?re no longer strangers but they?re more like friends.

We traded homes with a family who had a beautiful home filled with artwork and statues everywhere ? it would have been impossible for them to put it all away. We were very careful in their home.
4. Renter: If you?re a renter, check with the owner of your home or apartment. Your rental agreement should be a good place to start.

Home swapping means you get a kitchen ? live and cook like a local ? yes, we cooked those sardines but not the fish head!

3 Steps for Using Prompts to Write Better & Get Published | Jane ...

In January of 2007?as a New Year?s resolution?I decided I was a writer. I resolved that I would stop saying that I?d start writing ?someday? and instead would sit my backside in the chair and start writing now. No more excuses. I was a writer and I would start acting like one. That was when I started using writing prompts.

For the first several months after deciding to be a writer, all I wrote were writing exercises. Many were from books, like the ones listed in this post about prompt books that Jane wrote earlier this year. At first, I would work my way through prompt books one at a time, forcing myself to write something for each and every prompt, even if the result was awful. Before I knew it, I had produced several short stories (some of which eventually got published), I had put together a writing sample that helped me get accepted into an MFA program, and I even completed my first finished draft of a novel. All because of a few writing prompts.

Looking back, I realize there was a method to the madness, though I didn?t know I was doing it at the time. Through a simple three-step process, I built up my writing stamina and got tangible results just by doing writing exercises, and you can do it too. Here?s that process in a nutshell:

1. Build Stamina Through Practice
2. Develop Mastery of Techniques
3. Apply Prompts and Exercises to a Project

For the first six months after I decided I was a writer, I wrote nothing but exercises. These prompts weren?t exactly fun. In fact, writing them was about as enjoyable as snuggling with a porcupine, but I would muscle through each one through sheer force of will. Then one day, instead of stopping when time was up, I just kept writing, and before I knew it I had the first two pages of what would later become the short story and writing sample that would get me into graduate school.

When you do prompts and exercises, you build a writing habit. It?s the writing equivalent of practicing your scales; you get used to doing the work, whether you like it or not. Then when it?s time to perform, to write ?for real,? you?re ready.

There?s an old musician?s joke:

Q: What are the three steps for getting to Carnegie Hall?
A: Practice, practice, practice.

Prompts and exercises are a writer?s practice. When you practice writing, you also train your brain to write something?anything?even when your muse has decided to phone it in. Even if you love writing, there will come a day when you just don?t feel like doing it. That?s when practice comes in handy because it gets you through those moments. After all, anyone can write when it?s easy, when the story is exciting and and the characters fresh and fun. Real writers work even when the story hits a rut and the characters get on their nerves. Real writers write when it?s hard.

Once you?ve built up your stamina, the second step is to master the craft. One easy way to do this is to reuse the same writing prompt, but take a different approach each time. For instance, suppose you want to brush up on point of view:

Point of View Exercise: Choose one writing prompt, then roll a die. Do the prompt using the point of view specified by the number on the die.

1 = First Person
2 = Second Person
3 = Third Person Limited
4 = Multiple Points of View
5 = Objective
6 = Omniscient

But you don?t just have to use prompts for studying point of view; you can also use them to practice any number of writing techniques, such as description, dialogue, exposition, flashbacks, even theme. Just choose a prompt and combine it with a technique you want to master. Then start writing.

One of the most common excuses I get from writers for why they don?t like writing prompts is: ?I need all the writing time I have for my novel. Prompts are a distraction.? This is where step three comes in. Once you?ve built up your stamina and have an arsenal of writing techniques, you?re ready to start applying prompts to your current work-in-progress.

I know one writer who hates doing exercises, and yet she will be the first to admit that it was a writing prompt that helped her solve a significant plot problem in her current novel. It happened one day while my writer?s group was doing an exercise. In an effort to multitask, this writer decided to use one of the supporting characters from her work-in-progress as the focal character of the exercise. That way she was still somewhat working on her novel even by doing this unrelated exercise. What resulted was a scene that turned her novel on its head and helped that writer figure out a major plot twist that was giving her trouble.

Do?s and Dont?s

Do give yourself a moment or two to consider how you can apply this prompt to your current project before you dive into the exercise.

Don?t pigeonhole yourself. Your current project might focus on character A, but you can use the prompt to explore characters B, C or D instead.

Do explore other environments. If your story takes place in your protagonist?s hometown, try using a prompt to explore what your protagonist is like in a different setting. Send your protagonist on a road trip, honeymoon, or even to jail.

Don?t pick and choose your prompts. When I teach, I give students one?and only one?mulligan (golf term for do-over). If you choose a prompt that works with your project, then you defeat the purpose of doing the exercise altogether. It?s when you push your story beyond the expected and into new and scary directions that you make real breakthroughs.

Legacy funds might go to Fond du Lac Chippewa band after all ...

A dispute over whether Minnesota Legacy Amendment tax dollars should be used to help an Indian band buy land on its reservation might be easing.

With an apparent reversal of opinion by at least one member of the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council, the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa edged closer to being recommended to get $1.7 million in Legacy funds to protect a 440-acre parcel of land near the St. Louis River in northeastern Minnesota -- if the money becomes available.

The change of stance by state Rep. Denny McNamara, R-Hastings, follows a recent meeting among council Chairman David Hartwell, band Chairwoman Karen Diver, a band attorney and two staff members of the band's Resource Management division.

In a 7-5 vote Sept. 21, the council denied the band's request for the money to buy the land, which includes an 80-acre lake and 83 acres of wetlands. McNamara was the main voice of opposition in discussion leading up to the vote.

The affirmative rejection of the project -- an uncommon move by the council -- prompted Diver to object in writing. In a letter, she accused the council of failing to follow its own criteria for recommending projects, alleged the result was "punitive and discriminatory" and suggested a "constructive path forward." She said the denial was because of treaty rights band members have that have been upheld by courts.

During the Sept. 21 meeting, McNamara specifically objected to those treaty rights -- which allow band

members to hunt and fish under a separate set of rules than nonmembers -- being in effect on the parcel. He said it would set a "precedent" for Legacy dollars.

A staff member corrected him during the meeting: The 1854 treaty rights extend over a wide swath of the Arrowhead and are in effect for other lands that have been bought with Legacy tax proceeds. The band previously had agreed in writing that even though it would own the land, it would agree to all other terms that go with every other Legacy project, including public access for everyone. The Fond du Lac reservation's borders are not closed. The parcel is privately owned and being marketed for private development.

In an interview Wednesday, Oct. 17, McNamara maintained he wasn't aware the project wasn't precedent-setting when he voted against it. "I didn't understand that we had already been buying within the ceded territory," he said. "I was understanding that was going down new territory, and that's not the case. That changes it."

McNamara said he expects that the Legacy Amendment sales tax, approved by voters in 2008, will raise more money this year than the $92 million previously forecast. He said he would support putting that money toward the Fond du Lac project.

"I like the project," he said. "We'll see how the next forecast is."

Hartwell described his meeting with Diver as "constructive" and cordial.

"There was no direct talk of litigation," he said. "They could have taken a much harsher approach. I think they really want to see themselves as potential full partners over time."

In an interview Thursday, Diver said it's premature to speculate about whether the project might now get funded, but she said she was encouraged by the meeting with Hartwell.

"We're hopeful the board will take the time to address any misconceptions they may have," Diver said.

What was new about the Fond du Lac's request was that it was the first time a sovereign nation had requested Legacy money to buy land within its reservation. That was explained to McNamara shortly before members voted Sept. 21.

When asked about that in the recent interview, McNamara said: "What's the difference? It's going to be open to the public. If that was the reason we were doing it, then it would be wrong. We can't tell one group -- Becker County or Dakota County -- one thing, and then another group another thing."

Greene powers Jets to 35-9 runaway over Colts

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) ? Shonn Greene hit the ground running ? and just kept going.

Rex Ryan's "Ground-and-Pound" offense returned in a big way Sunday as Greene ran for a career-high 161 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries to power the New York Jets to a 35-9 rout of Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

"When you're running the ball that well," quarterback Mark Sanchez said, "you never want to stop."

Just about everything worked for the Jets as they rolled up 252 yards on the ground after struggling in the running game for weeks, Sanchez was solid and Tim Tebow made a few big plays. Even the Jets' maligned defense was able to shut down Luck and the Colts as New York snapped a two-game slide at home that had many wondering if the season was about to spiral out of control.

"We want to be a team no one wants to play," Ryan said. "And, we're on our way."

For a week, at least, Sanchez was in total control and the Jets (3-3) had their best overall performance ? save for a handful of personal foul penalties ? since an opening rout of Buffalo. After four straight games with less than 50 percent completion percentage, Sanchez finished 11 of 18 for just 82 yards, but had touchdown throws to Stephen Hill and Jason Hill.

"Wins come in all shapes and forms," Sanchez said. "I was proud of the way we were able to run the ball."

With the way the Jets, particularly Greene, performed behind an offensive line blasting open holes to run through, Sanchez didn't need to air it out.

"I think we can do it every week against any team," Greene said. "It's just a matter of us executing, not stopping ourselves and working hard during the week."

The frustrating thing for Indianapolis (2-3) was that New York did exactly what it expected. And the Colts still couldn't do anything about the running game.

"We wanted Sanchez to have to beat us with his arm," cornerback Jerraud Powers said. "If we stopped the run, that was what they were going to have to do. Whoever we play next week, that's what they're going to do. They're going to run the ball until we stop it."

Indianapolis trailed 21-6 at halftime and couldn't erase a big deficit for the second straight week after coming back from 18 points and beating Green Bay last Sunday for Bruce Arians' first win while filling in for Chuck Pagano, hospitalized while being treated for leukemia.

Luck finished 22 of 44 for 280 yards, two interceptions and a lost fumble on a day he misfired a handful of times. Luck was driving the Colts a possible touchdown with less than 7 minutes left, but Ellis Lankster ended that when he intercepted the rookie's toss for Donnie Avery in the end zone.

"It's learning how to be consistent, and that's something I've struggled with," Luck said. "I think I played very poorly this week after a decent half of football last weekend. As a team, we have to learn to come out and consistently be good."

The Colts were missing sacks leader Robert Mathis, and lost defensive end Cory Redding to an injured right knee in the first quarter. Indianapolis was also without leading rusher Donald Brown; replacement Vick Ballard had just 25 yards in his first NFL start.

Tebow helped the Jets take a 21-6 lead just before halftime on a drive kept alive by some trickery. On fourth-and-11 from the Colts 40, the do-it-all backup quarterback ? lined up as the punt protector ? took the direct snap, stepped forward and tossed a jump pass to linebacker Nick Bellore, who rumbled 23 yards as the crowd at MetLife Stadium went wild.

Three plays later, Tebow was at quarterback and ran 3 yards for a first down, setting up Sanchez's 5-yard TD toss to Jason Hill with 27 seconds left. Tebow met Sanchez as he ran toward the sideline and the two leaped and bumped hips to celebrate the score.

"We were very efficient, effective," Tebow said. "We had some big runs, threw the ball really well in the red area and converted on third down. It was a pretty good day for us."

Greene made it 28-6 late in the third quarter on a 4-yard spin-and-run on a drive sparked by Joe McKnight's 61-yard run that gave the Jets the ball at Indianapolis 6. McKnight injured his left ankle on the play, three plays after Bilal Powell was lost with a shoulder injury.

Both McKnight and Powell were scheduled to have MRI exams Monday.

Greene got the touchdown hat trick with a 2-yard run with 1:05 left, a few minutes after Muhammad Wilkerson forced a fumble on a sack of Luck and David Harris recovered at the Colts 14.

"If you can't block and you can't tackle, you can't win," Arians said. "It's fundamentals, things we identified going into the game: fake punts, stopping the run, protecting the quarterback. Red zone offense and defense were keys to the game. We didn't win in any of those areas."

Once a tea party underdog, US Senate favorite Cruz now reconciling with mainstream Texas GOP

AUSTIN, Texas ? Ted Cruz won the Republican nomination for Texas' open U.S. Senate seat as a tea party insurgent and major underdog. Now he heads into the general election the prohibitive favorite and is busy reconciling with a state GOP establishment he long bashed as too moderate.

Cruz argues that there's nothing unusual about his making nice with former foes. "Typically, after a primary, one hopes to see Republicans unite," he said in an interview. "That's what's supposed to happen."

Still, Cruz became a national symbol of tea party might when he upset Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, a 14-year veteran of Texas politics endorsed by Gov. Rick Perry and much of the state GOP mainstream.

The lieutenant governor won the Texas primary in May by 10 percentage points, but failed to capture a majority in a nine-Republican field. Cruz then painted Dewhurst as a closet moderate beholden to the party establishment and whipped him by nearly 14 points in a July runoff.

Cruz's new opponent, former Democratic state Rep. Paul Sadler, says Cruz is a political novice who is too extreme for even a state as conservative as Texas ? where no Democrat has won statewide elected office in nearly 20 years.

But Cruz responded that Sadler's 12 years in the Texas House ended in 2003, adding: "I don't agree with him that the only people that deserve a public office are those who have held elected office for many, many years."

Cruz continues to campaign across Texas, striking a decidedly populist tone while pledging to reign in federal spending and get "government's boot off the necks of small businesses."

But Cruz has also appeared at fundraisers lately with both Dewhurst and Perry. He's similarly raised money with the woman he's vying to replace, retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. And all this comes after Cruz spoke at the Republican National Convention.

Asked if he's still an insurgent, Cruz said, "Sure I am."

"We just came through a $50 million primary, the most expensive primary in the country," he said, "and we were outspent 3 to 1."

Indeed, GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak said Cruz has to replenish his campaign coffers since his primary contributions can't be spent campaigning for the Nov. 6 general election ? and party veterans have a broader donor base than a relative newcomer like Cruz.

"Once you get through a primary, everybody's establishment," Mackowiak said.

Cruz was a virtual unknown when he mulled a run for attorney general in 2010 but chose not to challenge Abbott. Instead, he announced he would campaign for U.S. Senate ? defying Dewhurst, who has overseen the powerful Texas Senate since 2003.

The owner of an energy company, Dewhurst spent $20 million of his own money on the campaign. Cruz countered with large donations from national tea party groups. The Washington-based, free-market advocacy organization Club for Growth spent $5.5 million supporting Cruz ? but says it doesn't feel gipped now that he's mending Republican fences.

"Grassroots conservatives don't care about words, they care about actions. Ted Cruz has changed neither," said club spokesman Barney Keller. "He will vote to limit government and to increase economic liberty when he's in the Senate. I don't think anyone has any doubt about that and his rhetoric hasn't changed."

Julie Turner, president of the Texas Patriots PAC in suburban Houston, said of Cruz, "He does have to represent all of Texas now, so we want him to work with other people but still stay principled."

"It's not Cruz becoming establishment," Turner said. "It's Dewhurst and others becoming friendlier to him."

A former Ivy League debating champion with degrees from Princeton and Harvard, Cruz wouldn't appear to cut much of anti-establishment figure. He even fell in love with his wife Heidi while both were working on the 2000 presidential campaign of George W. Bush ? now often a target of tea party ire for running up large federal deficits.

Cruz argued cases on behalf of Texas as the state's solicitor general between 2003 and 2008 but he was appointed by Abbott, meaning he's never held political office.

The son of a Cuban-American who fled the island before Fidel Castro took power, Cruz was born while his parents were in Alberta during a Canadian energy boom, though he grew up mostly in Houston.

That likely makes Cruz eligible for dual U.S.-Canadian citizenship ? ironic given that his native country has a nationalized health care system and Cruz has been a fierce critic of the Obama administration's health care overhaul.

"I am a U.S. citizen," Cruz said. "I have only ever had one passport and that is a U.S. passport." He refused to elaborate, and Canadian consular officials won't comment, citing privacy concerns.

"I was born in Calgary," Cruz quipped, borrowing an old line from Bush, "because I wanted to be near my mother at the time."

'Taken 2' takes down 'Argo' in close weekend

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Liam Neeson's "Taken 2" has defended its box-office title with a narrow win over Ben Affleck's "Argo."

Sunday studio estimates put 20th Century Fox's action sequel "Taken 2" at No. 1 with $22.5 million in its second weekend. "Taken 2" raised its domestic total to $86.8 million.

Affleck's "Argo," an Iranian hostage thriller from Warner Bros., opened in second-place with $20.1 million.

Ethan Hawke's fright flick "Sinister," a Lionsgate release about a true-crime writer caught up in supernatural horror, debuted at No. 3 with $18.3 million,

Sony's "Here Comes the Boom," with Kevin James as a teacher who becomes a mixed martial arts sensation, started weakly at No. 5 with $12 million.

The weekend's other new wide release, CBS Films' crime comedy "Seven Psychopaths," also opened to small crowds, taking in $4.3 million to finish at No. 9. The movie's ensemble cast includes Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Woody Harrelson.

The follow-up to "Taken," the hit that established dramatic star Neeson as an action hero, "Taken 2" was dinged by critics who called it a replay of the original. The sequel has Neeson's ex-CIA guy up against a gang of Albanian goons out for revenge for their kin that he killed in the first movie.

"It kind of proves that reviews do not matter," said Paul Dergarabedian, an analyst for box-office tracker Hollywood.com. "Audiences just continue to eat this up. They just love Liam Neeson in this role."

"Argo" may prove the opposite, using its great reviews and Academy Awards buzz to settle in for a long stay at the box office. Affleck directed and starred in the real-life story about a CIA operative who concocts a plan to rescue six Americans hiding in Tehran after the 1979 U.S. embassy takeover by disguising them as members of a fake movie crew.

Revenues on the film ticked up a whopping 47 percent from opening day Friday to Saturday, a sign that audiences were talking it up exuberantly to friends.

"This is a really good indication of how quickly word of mouth can spread," said Dan Fellman, head of distribution at Warner Bros. "The critical acclaim in this case is going to translate into commercial success."

"Argo" played almost entirely to older crowds that do not necessarily rush out to see movies over opening weekend but often check out well-reviewed films in subsequent weeks.

Lionsgate was happy to come in third with "Sinister," ''especially given most people's projections on the film were in the low teens at best," said David Spitz, head of distribution. "It's always nice to come in and over-perform everybody's expectations."

Hollywood's business continues to grow as it heads into the busy holiday season. Overall domestic revenues came in at $132 million, up 51 percent from the same weekend last year, when "Real Steel" led with $16.3 million.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

Boy, 4, hurt but alive after fall from ninth floor

A child fell out a window on the ninth floor of an apartment building in Silver Spring, Md., Thursday afternoon, according to Montgomery County police.

A tree helped break the four-year-old boy's fall, which occurred at about 3:15 p.m., NBCWashington.com reported.

The woman who found the child said he was crying in a bush. She did not know who his family was, and so called 911, Stone reported.

He suffered head injuries and a broken femur and was taken to Children?s Hospital in a serious condition, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Family members were in the apartment when the boy fell, Stone reported.

Police and Child Protective Services staff are investigating the circumstances of the fall.

The first question in the vice presidential debate this week ? the one that is becoming most troublesome for the Obama-Biden ticket ? was about Libya and the deadly attack on the US consulate in Benghazi.

The essence of the query to Vice President Joe Biden was as old as Watergate: ?What did you know and when did you know it??

That is, shouldn?t you have anticipated the possibility of a terrorist attack, especially on the anniversary of 9/11 when US Ambassador Christopher Stevens made what turned out to be a fatal visit to Benghazi, an area known to include Al Qaeda sympathizers?

And why did the administration persist in describing the attack that killed Ambassador Stevens and three other embassy personnel as tied to protests across the region to a crude anti-Islam YouTube video ? protests, as UN Ambassador Susan Rice said some days later, that "seems to have been hijacked ? by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons.?

As it turns out, there were no protests tied to the offensive video, and the attack by terrorists seems obviously to have been pre-planned and well-executed against a lightly-defended facility. What?s more, according to congressional testimony this past week, requests for beefed-up security had been made to the State Department.

Mr. Biden?s answer to debate moderator Martha Raddatz: ?We weren?t told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security.?

But as Washington Post fact checker Glenn Kessler reported Friday, ?Biden?s bold statement was directly contradicted by State Department officials just this week, in testimony before a congressional panel and in?unclassified cables released by a congressional committee.?

?All of us at post were in sync that we wanted these resources,? said Eric Nordstrom, the top regional security officer in Libya earlier this year. A Utah National Guardsman who led a security team, Lt. Col. Andrew Wood, said: ?We felt great frustration that those requests were ignored or just never met.?

The story changed, Biden tried to explain, as more information became available.

?We said exactly what the intelligence community told us that they knew,? Biden said. ?That was the assessment. And as the intelligence community changed their view, we made it clear they changed their view.?

That is probably true, and it?s no doubt true that security at diplomatic facilities around the world is handled by the State Department, not the White House.

Still, the buck stops with the president. And Obama no doubt will be faced with the same kind of questioning Biden was when he meets Mitt Romney for the second presidential debate ? to be held this coming Tuesday in town hall format and scheduled to include questions on foreign policy and national security.

Kyrgyzstan says ousted leader's son arrested in London

BISHKEK (Reuters) - Maxim Bakiyev, son of Kyrgyzstan's fugitive former president, was arrested in London on Friday at the request of Kyrgyzstan and the United States, which want him "for grave crimes", the Kyrgyz president's office said.

"Because of the absence of an extradition agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and Great Britain, the British side is now considering the issue of extraditing Maxim Bakiyev to the United States," the presidency said in a statement.

"Maxim Bakiyev is charged with crimes which under U.S. law are punishable with a long term in jail."

British police said the 34-year-old Bakiyev was arrested by extradition officers on the request of U.S. authorities, who want to question him for alleged involvement in fraud. He had voluntarily visited a police station in central London by appointment.

President Kurmanbek Bakiyev was given shelter by Belarus after crowds of protesters seized his government headquarters in an April 2010 revolt in which about 90 people were killed when security forces opened fire on opposition supporters.

Belarus, run by authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko, has repeatedly rejected Kyrgyzstan's requests to extradite the former president, who is accused at home of "mass killings" of protesters during the coup.

Maxim Bakiyev, who under his father headed an investment agency, has been accused by the country's new authorities of involvement in large-scale frauds which stripped the impoverished ex-Soviet nation's coffers of millions of dollars.

Shortly after the fall of Bakiyev, Kyrgyzstan made a request to the international police organization Interpol for his son to be detained.

Kyrgyzstan's ties with Belarus have soured in recent months after Minsk also declined to extradite the ex-president's younger brother Zhanybek, who headed his personal security guard and is also accused of committing mass killings.

Kyrgyzstan, a mainly Muslim Central Asian nation of 5.5 million, hosts both U.S. and Russian military air bases and lies on a drug trafficking route out of Afghanistan.

It remains chronically unstable. Two presidents, including Bakiyev, have been toppled since 2005. Some 500 people were killed in interethnic clashes in the country's south in June 2010.

Three opposition nationalist parliamentarians were arrested last Friday and charged with attempting to stage a coup after they led a crowd which tried to storm government headquarters in a protest over a gold mine run by Canadian firm Centerra Gold.

Last week's clashes between police and opposition supporters were the most violent in Bishkek since April 2010, when Bakiyev fled from the same government building to escape popular anger.

Is the Silva-Bonnar fun fight enough reason to buy UFC 153?

Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White called the hastily thrown-together bout between Stephan Bonnar and UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva a fun fight.

Asked earlier this month in Nottingham, England, if those ripping the matchup should relax a bit, White said certainly.

"You're absolutely, 100 percent right (that it's OK to have fun fights sometimes)," White told MMAjunkie.com. "The fact that the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world steps up and says, 'Somebody's hurt? I'm in'? Second time he's done it, too ??he came in late after i'd already canceled the Jones fight. It's weird (fans are down on it)."

I like fun fights. Who doesn't like a fight that just exists for entertainment? But when you're talking about the pound-for-pound king who is 37 years old, you have to consider how many fights he has left in him. Is a fun fight at a bigger weight class the best way to use him?

Another problem is with putting a fun fight as the main event of a pay-per-view. $54.95 is a lot of money to spend to watch the world's best fighter go against someone who is not considered a challenge, by oddsmakers or anyone else in the sport.

Yes, Silva saved UFC 153 from going down in flames like UFC 151 before it, but White shouldn't be surprised when people aren't over the moon about a "fun fight."
