.
While buying Thermal labels and tags there are several confusions consumer needs to undergo. In order to get rid of such uncertainties below given are the various types of thermal labels:

Direct thermal coated label:

These labels are coated labels and with the help of heat the image can appear on it. It is coated so as to protect it from fading quickly. However the label fades eventually and cannot be used permanently.
Direct Thermal Uncoated Label:
These are uncoated thermal labels that are cheap. These fade easily and can be marked by hitting and rubbing. These labels are used where permanent labels are not required.

Standard Thermal Transfer Labels

These are labels that receive the image with the help of heat transferring wax from a ribbon against thermal label. With these labels you need to use ribbon. In this case the image is extra permanent as it is in resin or wax or both.
Direct Thermal Label

There is no use of ribbon in direct thermal labels and tags. They are used for temporary basis; for example, in shipping labels where label is required for a temporary period. From the print head the image is made with the help of creating heat on the label. It is also responsive to scratches and bumping.

Thermal Transfer Label

Thermal transfer label is used for labels that will stay for years or months. It is mainly used for barcode labels, product labels, asset labels and location labels. These labels use a label material that is not responsive to heat. Wax is heated from a ribbon from the print head and then transfers it to a label. Due to this the label will not become lighter.

Wax ribbon or resin can be used in case the labels need to be used for indoors. Most commonly used material is paper though polypropylene is also used that makes the label resist humidity. This helps the label from dirt, oil and tearing. Wax and resin ribbons are used for bar coding, bins and warehouse shelving. Polyester thermal are durable as compared to polypropylene labels as they can withstand high temperatures. It consists of strong scratch resistant features. It has a glossy finish and is used on motor engine labels, racks and serial plates.
