Bradenton, Florida -- Manatee High School senior?Hayley Hawkinberry beat out six others to be crowned Miss Teen Florida's Hometown USA in Orlando on Nov. 11.?
Not only did Hayley win the whole pageant, she also won the talen portion of the competition singing "Orange Colored Sky".
Florida's Hometown U.S.A. is an educational program that stresses the importance of church, home and school activities for Florida's youth.?Six students are selected each year to represent their hometown throughout the state. Each girl is recognized by the Mayor of her city and by her school.
Hayley?s year of service will be spent doing volunteer work and attending many community service events. The girls are presented a Resolution from the House of Representatives, the Florida Senate and the Florida Department of Commerce. They receive a Certificate of Achievement from the United States Congress. They also receive recognition from the Governor, Lt. Governor, and President of the United States, Vice President, and the First Lady.
She reportedly will begin her year as Florida's Teen Miss Hometown USA Dec. 1, having toy drives for local children?s hospitals, raising money for children with childhood cancer, and raising awareness for such causes as domestic violence among teenage girls, cyber bullying and human trafficking. She will be speaking at local schools, visiting hospitals and nursing homes, and rallying support for her causes.
Hayley was sponsored by local businesses.? She was selected out of other high school students ages 16-18 from all over the state of Florida.?
Hayley said she is one giant step closer to her dream of becoming Miss America as she was crowned at the Sheraton Orlando North, receiving the same title that Miss America 2004 Erika Dunlap, of Orlando,?won when she was Hayley's age. These girls will become powerful and visible spokeswomen for issues ranging from AIDS prevention and homelessness to domestic violence among teenagers and cyber-bullying.
"I hope the community and local businesses will follow Hayley this year as she represents Bradenton and her hometown by coming out and supporting her community service initiatives,? ?said?her mother Shay.
